Inquiry

Our building is a multi tenant building. The building owner and applicant occupies over half of the building. While the owner is willing to share data on absenteeism and healthcare costs for IEQc4.1, this information will be difficult to obtain from the remaining tenants due to its confidential nature. The intent of the credit is to promote the green building movement by documenting the health benefits associated with green building design and operation. We consider the applicant\'s information gathered could stand alone as documentation of the health benefits gained by a tenant in a LEED-EB 2.0 certified building, and therefore would meet the intent of the credit. Is it possible to earn the credit by providing only the information under the applicant\'s control? Alternatively, if you consider that the information is required for all of the tenants, is it possible to assume that the remainder of the tenants have health care costs and absenteeism equal to the annual averages for firms of similar size in the geographical area? Health care costs and absenteeism could then be calculated for the building as a whole. We consider this approach to be similar to the spirit of the Credit Interpretation Ruling for LEED-EB 2.0 MRc2 dated 7/16/2007. However this approach would not appear to result in real and accurate data that could be used to promote the health benefits associated with green building design.
