Inquiry

The project is the design and construction of a new air terminal building on an existing airport property with other existing air terminal buildings. The air terminal buildings which have many of the basic services (banking, food, post office, etc.) are all connected by an underground tunnel with a walkway and train. Most of the Airport\'s 56,000 employees (more than the average US city) have pedestrian access to these basic services and can access the facility by light rail and bus service from their homes. This development meets the Credit Intent of channelling development to an urban area with existing infrastructure to protect greenfields and preserve habitat and natural resources as the new air terminal building is being developed within the existing airport boundaries.\n\nAlso, in the LEED Canada-NC ver.1 reference package under SS credit 2 under interpretation, it states:\nDevelopments such as an airport terminal that serve one purpose and do not create a critical mass of mixed-use opportunities are unlikely to be capable of meeting the intent of the Credit unless it is a new building or renovation to an existing building on an existing airport site.\n\nIt is our belief that this facility meets the intent of the credit while still allowing for the unique space requirements necessary for the safe operation of an airport. Please advise.
