Inquiry

Credit Interpretation Request for definition of a "building" This credit interpretation request is to clarify the ruling dated 5/23/2007 which states that the LEED-NC rating system is appropriate for entire buildings. The first part of the question is whether a building per the USGBC is defined by the code definition of a building and has fire rated demising walls around the building OR whether a building per the USGBC is an entire free-standing structure. The second part of the question is relevant if the USGBC determines that a building is an entire free-standing structure. If the area getting a major renovation is separated from other parts of an existing building by a the demising wall and all of the existing building belongs to the same owner (like a higher education or municipal building type and not a landlord-tenant arrangement), can the free-standing structure requirement be waived so the project boundary for LEED-NC is focused on a building separated by demising walls?
