Inquiry

Our question pertains to the manner in which occupancy counts must be figured for multi-unit residential projects pursuing LEED-NC certification. Are we obligated to calculate this number per square footage (as the local code requires) or is it reasonable to calculate it per the number of bedrooms? For instance, it seems reasonable to assume 2 regular occupants for a one-bedroom unit, 3 regular occupants for a two-bedroom unit and so on.\n\nIn addition, we plan to provide space for bicycles in fully-covered, secure and easily-accessible storage units at ground level that will be provided for ALL the residential units. We feel that such an arrangement is superior to common bicycle racks but we want to be certain that the CIR Review Committe agrees.\n\nOn a related note, since we will provide bicycle storage for ALL of the units in the project, and in the process provide a storage slot/rack for at least 30% of the regular occupants, would we be entitled to an Innovation credit?
