ASHRAE intends the use of the ECM, "where no simulation program is available that adequately models a design, material, or device." Does this ruling imply that some other energy calculation methodology must be used, or can the same simulation program (say DOE or Trace) be used with altered schedules - provided advance approval of the "engineering narrative" and "analog model" are granted by the USGBC?
