Inquiry
Credit Ruling ID #050-EAc11-071001 references the use of ASHRAE\'s ECM (Exceptional Calculation Methods, section 11.5 of Standard 90.1-1999) and states that variations in schedules are not allowed in the reference standard, then states that schedule variations may be used following the ECM. ASHRAE intends the use of the ECM, "where no simulation program is available that adequately models a design, material, or device." Does this ruling imply that some other energy calculation methodology must be used, or can the same simulation program (say DOE or Trace) be used with altered schedules - provided advance approval of the "engineering narrative" and "analog model" are granted by the USGBC?
