Exterior Bait Termite Treatment System Our building project is a renovation/addition located in a southern state. Termite treatment is required by the local building code at all new construction and existing structures when the adjacent foundation is disturbed. The traditional treatment method requires a site mixed, surface applied liquid chemical to the 28,000 s.f. building pad prior to footing and slab placement. Re-treatment will be required within 5 years. The re-treatment process will expose the building occupants to dust from core drilling the slab, reapplication of the chemicals, and reinstallation of the slab finish materials. Reapplication of the termite treatment is by spray and can result in over application by the field technician to both the area under the slab and the interior slab surface. In response to this regional environmental issue, we are proposing to install the exterior bait termite treatment system to reduce chemical exposure both during construction and after building occupancy. This system identifies when termites are present through an exterior bait system and then provides a pre-measured chemical at the exterior perimeter of the building where termites have been detected. The chemicals do not enter the building so the potential for future contamination of interior building surfaces and air is greatly reduced. This is a major building on the central university campus. We will be the owner/occupant and responsible for the monitoring and added maintenance cost of this termite treatment. Does the installation of the bait termite treatment system qualify for an innovation credit?
