Green Housekeeping Our project is a federally funded K-12 school for the Navajo nation. The school has adopted a green housekeeping program for the new building in accordance with the Eastern Navajo Agency\'s (ENA) Green Housekeeping Program. This program focuses on the utilization of standardized environmentally friendly institutional cleaning chemicals and enhanced custodial training using the Green Seal approved ENVIRCARE chemical line, which consists of products that are non-hazardous and have a low environmental impact. The ENA Green Housekeeping standard meets several federal mandates including Executive Order 13101 on Greening the Government through Waste Prevention, Recycling and Federal Acquisition and Section 23.703 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation which requires federal agencies to consider environmental factors when purchasing products and services. The following is our proposal for the Innovation Credit. Can you tell us if this is sufficient information to apply for the credit? Intent: Utilize standardized environmentally friendly institutional cleaning chemicals and enhanced custodial training to reduce potential contaminants and hazardous chemicals in the school environment. Requirements for Compliance: 1. Eliminate the introduction of hazardous chemicals into the school. 2. Utilize non-hazardous chemicals that have no or greatly reduced impacts upon the environment. 3. Train staff in theory and use of environmentally friendly products and practices. Submittals: 1. Written program for training and implementation. 2. Written plan for integrating the Green Housekeeping program into the Environmental Education program. 3. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) on chemicals approved for use within the school. Design Approach: 1. Enroll staff in Green Housekeeping orientation program sponsored by the Eastern Navajo Agency. 2. Develop list of approved and prohibited chemicals and practices. 3. Adapt design of restrooms, janitor closets and maintenance areas to accommodate and enhance the Green Housekeeping initiative.
