Proposed Innovation Credit for Fume Hood Commissioning Our project is a science and classroom building of approximately 115,000 sq. ft. on a state university campus. Approximately 37% of the building is laboratory space. Although process loads are exempt from the energy use and commissioning requirements of the LEED Rating System, they do have a significant impact on the overall energy and health performance of buildings. In the case of a lab building, the fume hoods in particular, play a key role in maintaining the health and safety of the staff and students and are a key source of energy use in the building. In order to maintain the health and safety of the employees and to verify and ensure that the fume hood equipment is designed, constructed and calibrated to operate as intended, we are incorporating fume hood commissioning into the commissioning scope of this project. We would like to know if Fume Hood Commissioning qualifies for an innovation point. We propose to follow and expand upon the requirements of Labs 21 Environmental Performance Criteria Version 2.0 Indoor Environmental Quality Credit 9.2 - Indoor Environmental Safety. Intent (from Labs 21) Ensure health and safety of employees. Requirements (from Labs 21) Design laboratories to ensure contaminants are contained and workers are protected. Credit 9.2 (1 point) Conduct fume hood commissioning that includes ASHRAE-110 Method of Testing Performance of Laboratory Fume Hoods (1995). This is to include ratings for As Manufactured (AM) and As Installed (AI) as defined below. Scope of testing to include 6.1 Flow Visualization, 6.2 Face Velocity Measurements and 7.0 Tracer Gas Test Procedures. The hood performance rating for the Tracer Gas Test procedure shall be at least 4.0 AI 0.1 as specified in ASHRAE-110. In addition to the above, the fume hood commissioning will include ratings for As Manufactured (AM) and As Installed (AI) as defined below.
