Proposed Innovation Credit - Laboratory Controls Testing Our project is a 1.2 million SF science building renovation and expansion for a university campus. This credit applies only to the expansion portion, which is 240,000 SF. The program consists of research and teaching laboratories, lab support areas, offices, conference rooms, lecture halls, classrooms, libraries, food service, and public areas. 30-35% of the area is laboratory space. Laboratory Temperature and Airflow Controls plays a critical role in maintaining the health and safety of the staff and students and is also a key determinant of energy use in this building. In order to maintain the health and safety of the occupants and to verify and ensure that the laboratory control system meets the minimum performance criteria specifically established for this project, we have incorporated Pre-Installation Testing of the Laboratory Temperature and Airflow Control System (LTACS) into the scope of this project. INTENT Ensure health and safety of occupants and reduced energy use with a fully pre-tested Laboratory Temperature and Airflow Control System (LTACS). REQUIREMENTS Develop a \'Test Protocol\' specification and conduct pre-installation testing of the Laboratory Temperature and Airflow Control System (LTACS). The testing laboratory mock-up shall be complete with supply air fans, exhaust air fans, air valves, fume hood controllers, fume hood sash sensors, electric/pneumatic transducers, air valve controllers, master controllers, airflow stations, sound attenuators, space temperature sensors, and all accessories required, except where otherwise specified, to provide a complete mock-up of a functional lab control system. The testing lab shall use only calibrated and certified instruments to verify the accuracy of the data shown on the LTACS screen. All readings shall be calibrated to within 0.1%. Performance test guidelines have been established for steady state flow rates and average face velocity. These include acceptable accuracy, linear response, repeatability, response characteristics, and pressurization maintenance. Guidelines have been established for various challenges to the system, such as electrical and radio frequency interference, continuous fume hood sash movement, low flow conditions, and power failure. Guidelines, some subjective, have also been established for noise, corrosion, operator interface ease-of-use, serviceability, etc. SUBMITTALS Provide Letter Template, signed by both the Mechanical Engineer and the Independent Commisioning Authority, confirming that the required pre-installation testing of the laboratory control system has been successfully executed. Identify and submit the relevant specification section, documenting the testing protocol. Provide a copy of the final report that describes the laboratory controls pre-installation testing work and the results of the tests.
