Inquiry
We have registered our Project in India for the LEED Green Building Rating System Version 2.1 (NC). Ours is a 170000 sq.ft corporate office, coming up near New Delhi, India. We would like to mention that there is no equivalent of the Green-e program in India. However, for this project, which is a corporate office, we would be entering into a 2-years contract with a renewable energy power producer, who generates power through Micro Hydro. The Green power producer generates only through Micro Hydro (capacity less than 25MW) and not through any other sources. In India, as per Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources, Government of India, all Hydro Power Plants of capacity less than 25MW are classified as green power. As per a related CIR dt. 19.12.2001, we understand that this would qualify to achieve the green power credit. The agreement being entered into would meet all the five criteria established under the Green-e program. Further, this power will be wheeled through the inter-state common grid, , which wheels power from sources of both green as well as non-green power production. This means, the power distribution agencies may buy energy through various other non-renewable resources also. We presume that the power distribution agencies are not bound by the green-e programme requirements so long as the green power generator meets the green-e requirements. Please clarify if the project would be eligible for the Green Power Credit Point under EA Credit 6 of LEED Rating System Version 2.1 (NC), with power purchase arrangement as described above.
