Inquiry

We realize that next to the VOC content requirements for this credit LEED" also includes a list of banned chemicals. An unfortunate event during the pour of a concrete slab forces us to look at different floor finishes than originally planned. One proposed floor coating contains Isophoronediamine, which by name seems to be a close derivative of the LEED banned chemical Isophorone. Research of the health and environmental hazards of both these chemicals reveals that Isophoronediamine does not pose the same threats as Isophorone. Isophorone is listed with the EPA under http://www.epa.gov/ttn/atw/hlthef/isophoro.html Isophoronediamine is not listed with the EPA, presumably because it does not pose a threat. The OSHA website reveals the following information For Isophorone: http://www.osha.gov/dts/chemicalsampling/data/CH_248000.html For Isophoronediamine: http://www.osha.gov/dts/chemicalsampling/data/CH_248090.html Should you require more information to make a decision we would ask you kindly to search for the two names in http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov . A direct link is regrettably not possible. We would like a confirmation that utilizing a product containing Isophoronediamine will not jeopardize our credit point in this category.
