Inquiry

We would like to confirm the applicability of our project to meet the requirements of this credit. The project involves the development of a new four-story 125,000 SF Health Sciences Center on the existing North Central Technical College Campus in Wausau, Wisconsin. This structure is positioned directly south of an existing campus parking lot that will be adapted to work with the new facility, but will remain as shared parking for other adjacent buildings. In fact the overall number of parking spaces, in the shared lot, will be decreased from 322 stalls to 315 stalls. There is some question as to the manner of determining the Total Parking Spaces attributed to this type of building. The Health Sciences Center is an educational college building that has seven to nine fifty-minute periods scheduled per day, five days a week. The amount of people in or using this facility varies greatly during the course of a day as well as during the week. Based on information provided to the design team from the college the maximum number of people scheduled to in the building during one particular class period is 400, comprised of 362 students plus 38 faculty/staff. However, the building will never have this many people within it, since based on North Central Technical College historical information and class types scheduled to be in this building, approximately 25%-33% of these people would not be expected to be in the building as they would be off campus at clinical work or in an outlying classroom connected by Interactive Television (ITV). Hence, we would assume that our total FTE Building Occupants would be the actual occupancy of 300 people. Additionally, assuming that 100% of these students, faculty, and staff arrive by private vehicle, 300 parking spaces would be attributed to this building. Hence we would be required to install 9 vehicle-refueling spaces. For the purpose of this calculation will we be able to use the 300 actual parking spaces, planned by the college, to be attributed to this building?
