Inquiry
We would like to get your approval on the method we used to calculate Full Time Equivalent occupancy for the number of carpool spaces (also used for number of showers in Credit 4.2). None of the students are in the building full time, so we made the following assumptions: A typical classroom is assumed to be scheduled 2/3\'s of a day - at SMC this is an average of 3.3 class periods per day. Each classroom is also assumed to be only 60% occupied in any given class. Thus, a thirty seat classroom would accommodate 60 student seatings per day (30 seats x 3.3 class periods x 60%). Any given seat in a classroom, however, is occupied 40% of the day (67% scheduled x 60% occupied when scheduled). Thus, a thirty seat classroom accommodates an equivalent of 12 students over the course of a day. Laboratories can be determined similarly but with 52% of the day scheduled and an occupancy of 79% per scheduled period. (52% x 79% = 41%) Also, the carpool spaces are about 800 feet away from the classroom, along with all the other spaces except handicapped spaces. If we also do not exceed the local zoning for parking capacity, do we qualify for this credit?
