A specialist in low carbon and sustainable buildings over 15 years. After completing a PhD in Solar Energy Engineering Ben moved from academia to commercial sustainability engineering and led the Sustainability and Renewable Energy Group within Whitybird Engineers (now Ramboll UK). After gaining experience of large and international project leadership Ben co-founded Southfacing Services Ltd in 2004. Southfacing combine the offer of leading sustainability consultancy with the development of software and web based applications that also promote low carbon and sustainable buildings. Notable consultancy projects working at Southfacing have included BREEAM assessments on the London 2012 Olympic Games Aquatic Centre and Velodrome which both attained BREEAM Excellent ratings. Other projects have included the Renzo Piano London Bridge 'Shard', Heathrow Airport Terminal 2 and currently the Legacy Transformation of the London 2012 Olympic Stadium. Southfacing used their expertise of leading environmental assessments to specify and create an online assessment project management system. Launched commercially as Tracker Plus ( this is now the global market leading system which links directly with the certifying bodies (USGBC for LEED and BRE for BREEAM). Tracker Plus currently holds over 2,000 live assessments with in excess of 11,000 design team members having direct access to their assessments.
