Farah McDill

Sacramento, CA

BS and MS both from Colorado State University in Construction Management, Masters degree focused on sustainable building and how we can use our schools as teaching tools.
As the Center for Green School Fellow at Sacramento City Unified School
District, I work as the sustainability coordinator across the District. I
work with teachers and students on behavior change at the school sites, along
with the daily business of department directors at the District level.
Much of my work focuses on a program called Project Green, where students
perform green school audits, work with professionals to develop
recommendations to green their school and present those recommendations to a
panel of experts. The panel scored the team, based off a distributed rubric,
in order to allocate funding. The School Board had allocated $5 Million of
capital improvement funds to these student recommended projects. The students
received real life hands-on learning, while also helping to improve the
efficiency of their school sites.
I also help to manage the expansion of school gardens, the recycling program,
and the District-wide effort to reduce resource consumption.
In my spare time I love to ride my bikes, practice Bikram yoga, and visit
family and friends in Colorado.
