Gina Makris

Dr. Makris is an expert on the human health impacts of the built environment
and has been a consultant and expert in the field since 1993, focusing on
patients whose health is impacted by the built environment. As a
complementary physician, clinical nutritionist and science professor, her
breadth and expertise in healthy people -healthy buildings is refreshing and

As a professor, courses include anatomy, physiology, biology, nutrition,
medical massage, ergonomics and more, she has a profound understanding of the
human body systems and the impact the built environment has on each system.
Therefore, it makes sense to work with architects, builders, medical
professionals, educators and researchers on defining healthy indoor
environments that have the highest impact on human health and wellness,
productivity and a sense of occupant satisfaction at the highest level.

After years of clinical practice, Dr. Makris received her Master's degree in
Environmental Law and Policy from Vermont Law School in 2005. Her Master's
Thesis was healthy buildings=healthy people. She did her Law internship at
the prestigious Chicago office of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, LLC, and
worked with their Interiors team on their first Platinum LEED
office renovation.
She was one of the original founding members of the Chicago US Green Building Council, membership co-chair and LEED workshop coordinator. She has taught workshops on
integrated pest management, storm-water management, indoor air quality,
healthy workplace eating, workplace ergonomics, green cleaning and healthy
patient environments.
