Hassaan Idrees

Hassaan Idrees is from Karachi, Pakistan. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in electrical engineering from NUST and Arizona State University (ASU), respectively, and has professional experience in electric utility, petroleum and consumer goods companies. As a Fulbright scholar in the U.S. from 2014-2016 he worked for the ASU Power Systems Engineering Research Center, and served as the vice president of the Engineers Without Borders (EWB-USA) chapter, working in engineering development projects in the Navajo Nation, and for India and Kenya. In December 2014 Secretary Ernest Moniz of the U.S. Department of Energy appreciated his work in the Native American communities. He has to his name the 2013 IEEE Young Professionals Award for design of a rural e-health record system in Kerala, India, the Spot Recognition Award during plant turnaround at British Petroleum, and the International Young Leader’s Award by the Duke of Edinburgh for community service. At K-Electric, he currently works in energy efficiency and integration of renewable electrical energy systems. Hassaan is passionate about energy, and has recently designed and installed solar home systems for an entire off grid village in the Tharparkar desert bringing light, education and empowerment to the community.
