Jeremy is currently an independent consultant working on sustainable and resilient buildings, infrastructure, and cities. After more than 11 years as USGBC staff, Jeremy returned to school in 2018 for a masters in water science, policy, and management from Oxford University in the UK. From 2012-2018, he served as director, technical policy for USGBC.
In early 2007, Jeremy began working with USGBC and its community of advocates on advancing green building policy at the state and local levels. During his tenure at USGBC, Jeremy worked with USGBC and its community of advocates to advance green building policy at the state and local levels. As director of technical policy and as leader within the Center for Green Schools, Jeremy oversaw USGBC’s grassroots advocacy network across all 50 states to advance USGBC’s mission of green buildings for all within a generation. Jeremy also charted USGBC’s work on greening the building codes, spearheaded the WaterBuild summit at Greenbuild (2016-2018), and led early efforts to organize USGBC's work to drive action on city resilience.
Jeremy continues to be a leading voice for positive, constructive progress towards sustainability in our built world. He has led research and policy work on green building and energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable materials, and on program choice. He has published in Living Architecture Monitor, the Green Schools Catalyst Quarterly, ACEEE, and in the ASHRAE Journal. In addition, he authored the inaugural blog article for USGBC.org in 2011 and was an active contributor through 2018.
Since 2016, Jeremy has served on the Board of Directors for the Emerald Cities Collaborative, a hard-working NGO that is creating high-road (sustainable, just and inclusive) local economies through a variety of projects and programs primarily in 6 U.S. cities. Since 2019 Jeremy has served as an advisor to Bristol2Beijing, a global tandem cycling expedition redefining what is possible with a cancer diagnosis. He has been recognized for outstanding community service in his Washington, DC neighborhood where he fought for community interests and the deployment of green infrastructure. He currently serves on committees for the International Code Council and the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials to define safe and sustainable practices for building and community water systems.
Prior to joining USGBC, Jeremy was a project manager for altPOWER, Inc., a renewable energy contracting firm based in New York City and London, where he interfaced with developers, contractors, building officials and inspectors, building owners, and oversaw the installation of over 1.5 MW of photovoltaic projects. He also taught English in French Guiana, and French at his alma mater in St. Louis. Jeremy earned his bachelor of arts in political science and French from Washington University in St. Louis. Jeremy is also an ELP Senior Fellow.
