Luis Ayala

Luis studied architecture at Universidad Catolica de Asuncion, Paraguay and Istituto Univeristario di Venezia, Italy and studied Interior Design at San Diego State University, CA. He graduated as an architect in 1998 and is a registered architect in Paraguay.

In addition, he holds a professional photographer license by Asociacion Paraguaya de Fotografos.

He joined “Gabinete de Arquitectura” with Solano Benitez and Alberto Marinoni in 1995 and worked as a principal of this firm for several years. Gabinete worked intensely on architecture as a sustainable whole, from the exterior envelope to interior design. Out of hundreds of firms in Latin America, Gabinete was selected as one of the 5 finalists for the Mies Van der Rohe award in Barcelona, Spain. Their work was featured at the Biennale de Venezia, Italia and Sao Paulo bienal in Brazil. In addition, their work has been published in several architectural books and magazines.

For several years, Luis taught architecture design at Universidad Nacional de Asunción and Universidad Catolica de Asunción.

In 2007 joins SHW group as a designer in Houston, TX and recently won an AIA Design award with Gloria Marshall Elementary School.

Luis gave lectures about his work at Universidad Catolica de Asuncion, the University of Houston and University of Texas in Austin. Periodically participates at design critiques at University of Houston and UT San Antonio.

He was a jury member for the USGBC Houston chapter’s 2008 Environmental Building awards. He teaches architecture to kids at Jane Long Middle School as a part of the Citizen Schools program.
