Michelle Cottrell graduated with highest honors from the University of Florida’s College of Architecture where she earned a Bachelor of Design in Interior Design and a minor in Business Administration. She is a LEED Accredited Professional, a licensed interior designer, a published author, and a project manager with more than 12 years of experience specializing in commercial projects.

In 2005, Michelle established Design Management Services (dms) to provide Interior Design, Project Management, and Green Building Consulting services for clients throughout South Florida, the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast region of the US. dms’ client base includes architectural design firms, property management companies, private developers, government agencies, general contractors and Fortune100 corporations.

Since its inception, dms has evolved to focus on LEED documentation and process management for architects, developers, and general contractors all over the country. dms also offers corporate sustainability consulting for clients all over the globe focusing on economic and environmental responsibilities beyond the standard Corporate Social Responsibilities of their operations. The dms portfolio includes projects with the American Airlines Arena, Citibank, The Seminole Tribe of Florida, ENERActive Solutions, Laramar, 200 Ocean Condominium, Broward County Florida, Gensler, AKF, Skanska, Rockefeller Development, Avison Young, Wyndham Worldwide, and Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey Center for Green Building.

Michelle has assisted numerous project teams through the LEED certification process. Due to her experience, she accepted an opportunity from publisher, John Wiley and Sons in 2008, to author a number of books about LEED to educate professionals about the certification process and the rating systems. Her first hardcover, A Guide to the LEED Certification Process, From Concept to Certification was released in June 2011. Michelle has also authored a LEED exam prep series published by Wiley. The first book, Guide to the LEED Green Associate Exam was released in 2010, with Guide to the LEED AP BD+C Exam and Guide to the LEED AP O+M Exam following in 2011. In 2012, Guide to the LEED AP ID+C Exam and Guide to the LEED AP Homes Exam were both released.
