Rick is an architect and Leader of the Integrative Design Team at LHB where his primary responsibilities include business development, project leadership, and sustainable design on major projects. An advocate of sustainable design for over 25 years, Rick leads many large-scale initiatives to reduce energy, water, resource use, and greenhouse gas emissions from building to regional scales.

Rick co-founded LHB’s Green Team in 1991, a multi-discipline team dedicated to incorporating sustainable design techniques into all projects. He helped develop the Hennepin County/Minnesota Sustainable Design Guidelines and currently manages the Buildings, Benchmarks and Beyond (B3) Project including execution of sustainable guidelines for the State of Minnesota and benchmarking actual energy use in all of Minnesota’s public buildings.

Rick is an adjunct faculty member and teaches a graduate-level sustainable design course at the University of Minnesota’s College of Design in the Master of Science in Sustainable Design Program. Rick was a member of the Minnesota Climate Change Advisory Group and a co-chair for the Minneapolis-St. Paul Mayor’s Green Manufacturing Initiative.
