Stephen Carpenter

Mr. Carpenter is the founder and president of Enermodal Engineering, Canada’s largest firm exclusively devoted to energy efficient and sustainable buildings. Mr. Carpenter oversees a professional staff of over 100 with offices in Kitchener, Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Halifax, Vancouver and Edmonton. Mr. Carpenter is one of Canada’s leading sustainability experts. He is the co-author of the LEED Canada Reference Guide, a faculty member for the Canada Green Building Council and has been a chair of the LEED Canada Technical Committee since its inception.

He and his firm are currently working on sustainable projects worth over $5-Billion, including almost 250 LEED buildings. Enermodal served as the LEED consultant for 30% of all the LEED Canada NC projects. Major projects include the Redevelopment of Regent Park neighbourhood Toronto, 1.4 million ft2 Centennial Place Office Calgary, Nova Scotia Power headquarters, Dr David Suzuki School Windsor, and the New Brunswick Upper River Valley Hospital.

Mr. Carpenter’s awards include Canada Award for Business Excellence – Innovation, ASHRAE Technology Award for Building Design, Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance Award for Outstanding Leadership in Energy Efficiency, Lifetime Achievement Award from Sustainable Buildings Canada, and University of Waterloo Engineering Alumni Gold Medal.
