Almoosa Health Group’s has a mission to provide the Al-Ahsa community and the Saudi Arabia Eastern region with world-class health care and patient experience, a mission since Almoosa became Al-Ahsa’s first private hospital in 1996.

With 400 beds, ambulatory care, and specialized clinics, Almoosa remains one of the largest hospitals in the region. Almoosa focuses on patient-centered care, with a diverse of a high-qualified team of around 3000 caregivers using the latest equipment to work together to achieve one mission: To promote hope and well-being for our society.

On a site land area of 4,500m2 and 65,000 mproject BUA (47,560 m2 gross floor area excluding underground car park) Almoosa Health Group and the design team included HKS as an architect, interior designer, and medical planner, ARC for Landscape, Limah for signage and wayfinding, Sartoretto Verna for pharmacy design, iGuzzini for façade lighting, Chandelier by Preciosa, and Siemens for BMS solutions. The Whole team was able to add a 220-bed expansion that houses centers of excellence:  cardiology, oncology, neuroscience, orthopedics, surgery, burn, and intensive care. The facility features the latest technologies including: a hybrid OR, cath lab, clean room pharmacy, large clinic lab, linear accelerator, and invasive/noninvasive cardiac diagnostics. Other amenities include health and wellness medical retail, oncology radiation therapy, a 500-car parking deck, a simulation training lab, and a teaching auditorium. Programming, Planning, and Design were developed concurrently to streamline the process effectively, reduce environmental impact, optimize building performance and lower operational costs, increase employee satisfaction, and increase asset value.

The project leveraged the unique credits related to medical facilities to promote building performance and features to improve occupant health and well-being. With 72% reduction in parking footprint, 5% preferred and assigned for carpooling, and 2% EVSE. Creating three exterior open spaces on the project, ground-floor pedestrian-oriented paving sidewalk area, fourth and fifth-floor vegetated roof. Open spaces create around 41% of the building footprint and 40% of open spaces are vegetated. Almoosa Health Group encourages reducing the impact of water scarcity in the region, all plants used for landscaping are native and adaptive plants, minimizing the cooling tower water use by RO water treatment plant, and 48% potable water saving. Using high-efficiency systems, and using lower environmental impact refrigerant, 11% of energy cost savings were achieved. Materials that have environmentally, economically and socially preferable life-cycle impacts are used moreover Green Concrete was used for the first time. 93% of freestanding furniture and medical furnishings meet the Minimal Chemical Content. 81% of construction waste is diverted from landfill/ incineration by recovering, reusing, and recycling. 84% of regularly occupied areas on inpatient floors with access to non-obstructive view, and clear window glass from floor to ceiling. 98.5% of occupied spaces in the perimeter are provided with Glare control devices.

Almoosa Hospital is the first hospital in Saudi Arabia to achieve LEED Gold certification under LEED building design and construction: Healthcare rating system from USBGC.
