CIEC World Trade Center constantly promotes sustainable practices by providing annual training to employees and cleaning staff, developing a guide for waste separation, and installing a Green Gallery which boasts itself with images related to sustainable practices.

Centro Internacional de Expos y Convenciones World Trade Center, located in the heart of Mexico City, is better known for its outstanding design, operation and quality of service. Backed by a professional group of people with experience in caring for the needs of their customers, CIEC World Trade Center offers versatile and accessible services to ensure the success of the events held here.

The project has a total of 36,000 square meters distributed in 23 modular multipurpose classrooms, one business center with the latest technology and a 25,000m2 auditorium. CIEC World Trade Center receives nearly 4 million visitors in over 120 exhibitions annually, which involved more than 20,000 exhibiting companies, benefiting every year with the services offered by the World Trade Center.

Among the actions that make CIEC World Trade Center an example of good practices in our city include:

Waste

Separation of organic, inorganic and recyclables (paper, cardboard, metal, glass, plastic and wood). Dangerous waste such as fluorescent lamps, solvents, ballasts and batteries are sent to authorized final disposal sites.

Energy

A total of 1,040 luminaries were replaced saving more than 650 kw/hr per day. The project uses energy saving equipment such as variable speed drives on escalators, ENERGY STAR appliances and energy-saving lamps. Variable speed drives engines were installed in six escalators and all switches were replaced by dimmers in order to reduce daily energy consumption. Lights are kept off in areas where there are no events and during assembly and disassembly of events, only 50% of lights are kept on. A maintenance program is in place for HVAC equipment (27 AHU), thus saving energy and enhancing air conditioning efficiency.

Water

In order to save water, manual systems were replaced for automated systems including low flow toilets, waterless urinals and low flush fixtures. A preventive and corrective program for their plumbing systems was also developed.

It is important to note that CIEC World Trade Center works with companies that have environmental practices. Cleaning staff use biodegradable products and recycled content products. Almost all ongoing consumables have some recycled content. Conventional disposable products are being replaced with biodegradables. For example, new carpet is being replaced with recycled carpet.

CIEC World Trade Center is 100% smoke-free, approved by the Ministry of Health of Mexico City. CIEC World Trade Center constantly promotes sustainable practices by providing annual training to employees and cleaning staff, developing a guide for waste separation, and installing a Green Gallery which boasts itself with images related to sustainable practices.
