Project info

Size76,000 sq ft

John Diemer Elementary School is a rebuild of the existing school building. The new school is 76,000sf and achieved a wide-range of sustainable building performance goals both inside and outside of the building. The design is comprised of administration offices, counseling offices, a nurse office, a cafeteria, gymnasium (which is also a tornado shelter), media center, art room, diverse outdoor play areas and classrooms for K-6. Areas of performance excelled in water performance, materials and resources, energy efficiency and healthy interiors.

The building achieved a LEED silver rating thanks to:

Promoting alternative transportation options including bike paths, EV charging capabilities, and walkability to nearby community needs.

Indoor plumbing fixtures will use more than 33% less potable water than conventional systems.

No potable water will be needed for the native, drought tolerant landscaping.

Strategies to optimize energy by more than 22% was achieved through an integrated process in the design of the school and procuring clean power from the utility provider.

Procurement of healthy, resource sensitive building materials was prioritized and exemplary performance in EPD’s and Material Ingredients was achieved.

Construction and demolition waste resulted in diverting more than 75% of all waste from the landfill.

The design team incorporated nature and biophilic design elements into the project to connect people to the natural environment.
