John Arthur Flats is Cincinnati’s first LEED Gold-certified, LGBTQ+ friendly affordable senior housing development. It provides housing and services for senior households earning 30% to 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI). The project is located in the vibrant Northside neighborhood and honors the legacy of Cincinnatian John Arthur, husband of Jim Obergefell, whose historic case led to the legalization of same-sex marriage in the U.S.

The 3-story building offers 57 affordable, energy-efficient apartments and several community spaces. These include the Maureen Wood Community Room, an outdoor courtyard, a fitness center, a dog park, a picnic area, and a special services suite. On-site services from the Council on Aging, Pennrose Management, Churches Active in Northside, and Caracole ensure residents have access to healthcare, social services, and community support.

The use of low-emitting materials, energy-efficient systems, and tested ventilation ensures excellent indoor air quality for senior residents. High-performance HVAC, energy-efficient appliances, and WaterSense fixtures work together to keep utility costs low. Additionally, locally sourced art and recycled materials support the local economy and help reduce the carbon footprint.
