K&L Gates Boston

The K&L Gates Boston offices are located on the 28th and 29th floors of 1 Congress Street, Boston, MA. The base building was completed in January 2023 and is 43 stories. The project is 58,472 SF and will be used solely as a commercial office space for the K&L Gates Law firm. The team initially aimed to achieve 'Certified'. However, the team was able to achieve the 'Silver' Level Certification by emphasizing the importance of sustainability goals and team transparency and cooperation. Due to the high efficiency of the base building's mechanical and HVAC design, the team was able to achieve a high level of energy performance which supported the team's sustainability goals. Additionally, the design team emphasized the importance of selecting materials that were safe for building occupants and reduced environmental impact. Early in design, the team selected materials with low emissions and VOC and that had material transparency. The team also incorporated these material requirements into the specifications. The team was able to achieve such success with LEED by tracking sustainability goals throughout the entire project, from pre-design through substantial completion.
