The Lakeview Net-Zero Passive House; a groundbreaking project that redefines modern living with an unwavering commitment to environmental responsibility. Designed by Mark Miller (CPHC) of Mark Miller Architecture and built by Paul Abueva of Abueva Builders, LLC., this exceptional home boasts an all-electric design, setting new standards in green building by reducing energy consumption by 85%.
The heart of this residence is its cutting-edge custom ducted mini-split heat pump system, seamlessly integrated with ventilation coupled with a ground loop heat exchanger. This innovative heating and cooling solution not only ensures year-round comfort but also drastically reduces energy consumption, minimizing the home’s carbon footprint.
What truly sets the Lakeview Net-Zero Passive House apart is its unwavering dedication to repurposing and responsible sourcing. Salvaged wood flooring from the previous residence graces the master bedroom, complemented by wood floors crafted from locally harvested lumber, thoughtfully selected from the very building site itself. Every inch of this space radiates character and conscientiousness.
The Lakeview Net-Zero Passive House also harnesses the power of the sun with a state-of-the-art 11.84kW ground-mounted Solar solar array, linked to a cutting-edge battery backup storage system. This ensures a reliable and sustainable source of energy, even during adverse weather conditions, reducing reliance on the power grid and promoting self-sufficiency.
Emphasizing the importance of healthy, high-performance green building practices, this project has earned prestigious certifications including EPA AirPlus and EPA WaterSense, reflecting its dedication to indoor air quality and water conservation. The home is equipped with an elevator shaft which, if needed can be utilized from the basement level parking area to the main floor.
Additionally, the Lakeview Net-Zero Passive House proudly holds the PHIUS certification from the Passive House Institute US: recognizing its exceptional energy efficiency and sustainability. Furthermore, the project achieved the esteemed LEED Platinum certification, underlining its commitment to excellence in environmental design and construction.
The team of Abueva Builders and Mark Miller Architects was recently awarded one of three Innovative Project Awards by US Green Building Council West Michigan Annual Leadership Awards.
