LEED Platinum 2013

The success of NAB’s project at Hysan Place has provided a marker and further guidance to greening other NAB facilities and new projects.

National Australia Bank Asia’s aim was to fit-out their new office in Hong Kong to provide a comfortable and healthy indoor environment for staff and visitors, whilst at the same time reducing negative impacts on the external environment. Certifying the project to the LEED-CI rating system provided independent validation of the projects green credentials. Targeting the highest level of the award ensured the best efforts of the project team throughout design and construction.
NAB’s office is located in a LEED-CS 2.0 platinum certified building. Choosing a LEED certfied building situated within an urban core with excellent transport links, provided significant benefits to the project’s CI certification.
The project space provides excellent indoor environmental conditions for staff, with good indoor air quality due to reduced levels of indoor pollutants and increased ventilation, good thermal comfort design, improved lighting design, and by taking full advantage of the available daylight and the views to the outside. Potable water consumption within NAB’s facility is reduced through the use of low flow and low flush fixtures and fittings, together with the provision of the building’s municipal supplied seawater for flushing purposes.
Energy costs for office operations are reduced through the purchase of energy efficient labelled computers, displays and appliances that reduce plug loads and electricity consumption. Lighting and air-conditioning controls include occupancy sensors to reduce energy waste, which were fully commissioned and documented so as to allow facility staff to maintain ongoing performance.
Implementation of waste management during construction reduced the waste diverted to landfill, but is followed by implementing purchasing and waste management practices to reduce waste and increase opportunities for recycling during office operations.
The success of NAB’s project at Hysan Place has provided a marker and further guidance to greening other NAB facilities and new projects. Details of LEED, the approach to manage a project, and technical information is now available to interested colleagues throughout NAB.
