Project info

Size1,284,223 sq ft

1784 is the second headquarters of NAVER, Korea’s leading IT company, as well as a tech convergence building that brings together all of its technologies, including autonomous driving, AI, and cloud. This 28-story building with eight basement levels also rises high in terms of the number of related technology patents, amounting to nearly 320 patents (as of December 2022). Another point that sets 1784 apart from existing office buildings that focused on providing a better work environment is its role as a test bed, where NAVER’s employees can directly test and use the technologies under R&D. The tech giant is conducting experiments on this future office that is both technologically and environmentally sustainable.

Green From Design

NAVER obtained the LEED Platinum certification for all of its constructions built over the past 10 years (Data center GAK, NHN Play Museum, Green Factory, CONNECT ONE, 1784). Among these LEED-certified spaces, 1784 is touted as an eco-friendly building that houses more advanced technologies based on the company’s experience operating Green Factory, its first headquarters. The company’s green efforts began from the design phase. Considering that office buildings consume a lot of power, it applied environmentally-friendly infrastructure and saved energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This hi-tech office is equipped with double-skin facades and the radiant cooling system to keep the room temperature constant, and 100% high-efficiency LED lights to minimize the Energy Use Intensity (EUI). Its attention to sustainability goes a step further—it recycles rainwater and daily used water, and makes best use of renewable energy, ranging from solar panels to chilled water thermal energy and geothermal heat.

Office Where Humans and Robots Coexist

In 1784, roughly 5,200 employees (as of 2024) live with about 100 robots. NAVER’s service robot called “Rookie” delivers coffees, lunch boxes, parcels, and convenience store items to the individual seats of their human counterparts, allowing them to use time more efficiently. These robots can move around this high-rise, complex office space without getting lost thanks to the ARC system, a multi-robot intelligence system based on NAVER Cloud Platform. The ARC is also the secret behind the delivery services, connecting all the robots in real-time and seamlessly integrating with a wide range of infrastructure in this building. 1784 is setting a new standard for future offices, allowing workers to experience the latest technologies in advance and use the insight gained from that experience to create new value.
