Paladino Seattle

Last certified on:
Certification level: Gold

Project info

Size8,994 sq ft

Paladino and Company completed a major renovation of an entire floor in a historic property built near the turn of the century for its new Seattle headquarters. Paladino applied its proven abundance approach to its own space, seeking to build upon existing resources to create an office that reflected the company’s core values while offering a healthy, collaborative and flexible environment with near-zero carbon emissions. As a result, the office was the first to achieve a LEED v4 Gold certification in the U.S. and was only the six LEED v4 certification in the world at the time.

Paladino aligned sustainability strategies to its mission-driven values, and therefore invested in features that mattered most to the success of the company: its people.

The team prioritized the creation of a space that allowed collaboration, natural ventilation, and daylight to flow freely throughout the space. Employees, armed with a laptop and Wi-Fi, are free to explore the inner urban office environment to find the space that matches their task and supports their desire to engage with others. Warm, cool, dark, bright, active, passive, private and collaborative spaces can be found throughout the office and are never hidden behind inaccessible doors.

The raw space was left as a reminder of the past history of the building and preserved to demonstrate that simple, expressive materials can be both beautiful and highly sustainable. Newer systems, such as advanced lighting, fans, and server ventilation system are expressed as a counterpoint and complement the passive features of the building.

Located in walk, bike and bus friendly downtown Seattle, on a walk-up accessible floor and naturally ventilated, employees have the ability to eliminate their carbon footprint and improve their personal health while at work.

The outcome of the abundance approach is a superior high-performance office space at conventional construction costs and decreased operating costs.
