The Inn at Darden, a 200,000 sq. ft. hotel and conference center, features 199 guest rooms, meeting spaces, and a restaurant within a beautifully designed arboretum that promotes physical activity and access to public transportation. Prioritizing sustainability, the project achieves a 30% reduction in indoor water use and an estimated 25% savings in energy through LED lighting and efficient systems. It also diverted over 50% of construction waste from landfills and maintains over 60% open space for outdoor activities. Inspired by Thomas Jefferson’s vision, the design fosters a seamless indoor-outdoor connection, enhancing well-being and community engagement. By serving both the University of Virginia and the broader community, the Inn fills a crucial gap in upscale accommodations while exemplifying leadership in sustainable hospitality practices. Lessons learned emphasize the importance of a holistic approach to stormwater management and community integration, positioning the Inn as a vital asset for future developments.
