Designed in accordance with the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) Comprehensive Master Plan and the Chesapeake Bay Act, Davis Hall is located on the York River shoreline. The facility consolidates programs previously dispersed in separate, antiquated facilities throughout the campus, and provides improved research and collaboration spaces for Marine Advisory Services, the Center for Coastal Resource Management, the Virginia Sea Grant, and the Campus Communications/Data Center. The new design features bio-science laboratories and technology-rich public outreach spaces. Built with sustainability in mind, Davis Hall features noticeable, elegant examples of sustainable design that helps conserve resources and provide an educational setting for the building’s occupants. The project achieved LEED Gold certification in 2019, making it the first LEED certified building on the Gloucester Point campus.
