Western Kentucky University’s Ogden College Hall is an 82,889 square-foot state university research and education building. The building houses biology, chemistry, and physics and features 36 laboratories and 104 fume hoods, making it a challenging candidate to achieve LEED certification at any level. In addition to earning LEED Gold, Ogden Hall became the first WELL Gold v2 Certified Higher Education and Laboratory in the nation and utilizes 56 percent less energy than a typical laboratory. Designed to put “Science on Display,” the building features large scale graphics, informational displays and signage encouraging occupants to discover the benefits of healthy living. The design capitalizes on the synergy between WELL, LEED and high-performance design to enhance student success, wellness and safety. Beloved by faculty and students, it received the People’s Choice Award in the 2018 Shaw Contract Design Awards for Higher Education.
