Material Health Evaluation Programs Harmonization Update

LEED version: v4
The Material Health Harmonization Task Group (HTG), which currently includes Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA), Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute (C2CPII), GreenScreen/Clean Production Action (CPA), Healthy Building Network (HBN), and the Health Product Declaration Collaborative, was established to address this adoption challenge. This pivotal project was funded by USGBC to map the similarities and differences between the various programs and work towards synergies through inter-Program harmonization and data sharing. Such harmonization would support manufacturer implementation of both the Disclosure and Optimization options in the LEED v4 Material Ingredients credit and accelerate progress in the industry towards the manufacture of inherently safer products. This report outlines the Task Group’s advances toward a universally applicable taxonomy for the purpose of product content inventory, and development of shared systems for data entry and assessment. This system will streamline efforts by manufacturers, program operators, and project teams and reduce redundant work. The benefits of this rich collaborative process are also outlined to encourage wider collaboration among additional programs.
